Veteran's Memorial Park: Out with the Old, In with the New

Welcome back! It's been awhile since I last posted, but I've been currently living out of state and returning to Hebron on occasion, every once and awhile. Upon my return, I was able to get over to Veteran's Park to see some new changes to the park. When I was last in town, the new playscape was built and the old skate park was ripped apart. Now, it's a full 180 (and that's not a pun). To add to the new playscape, there's a new skatepark and a new set of lights above the boy's baseball field.

If you remember my last post from 4 years ago, I mentioned how Veteran's Memorial Park was being vandalized and how the skate park was being taken advantage of (see pictures above). I even mentioned there was a petition set by Hebron town citizens to construct a new skatepark to put in place of the old one. Well, the town certainly listened and constructed the new skate park (pictured below), whether it was in response to the citizens of Hebron, or just to spruce up the park a little more than what it once was.

In these pictures, the new skate park is displayed. The day went out, it was already popular. There is no fence to enter the park, like there had been one earlier. It's easy enough to just grab your board and get skating. It looks to be about the same size, but it is more open and will hopefully remain more cleaner over time. There are a few pictures below as well.

The skate park looks much more open and welcoming, rather than stuck behind a fence where people used to jump to go skating. It's free, so grab your board and skate.

In addition to the skate park, there is a new playscape, though it looks to be in the same spots as the playscape that was there before. It's just remodeled. I must admit, I will miss the traditional swings we used to have and the tire swing, which is now gone (some might be happy about that as kids would often get sick from it). In any case, the playscape is updated, in a different color, but virtually in the same place as the one before.

It looks like it might take up a little less more space, but it generally looks to be in the same area as the previous playscape. Part of me is happy we got a new playscape and skate park, but being someone who grew up in the old Veteran's Park, I am going to miss the old park, even with its flaw. I can attest, however, that I felt the same charm in the park as I did before the new parts were constructed.

Last, but not least, the baseball field received new lights. I was informed that one of the baseball teams officially played their first game under the new lights.

Here are two slightly different viewpoints of the lights. I haven't caught a game at night yet, so I hadn't seen their effectiveness, but it's apparent that they are a bit more powerful than the previous lights we had.

I couldn't not get a couple shots of the softball field. Unfortunately, it looks like this field didn't get the same treatment with the lights, but I must say, it looks nice and prepared for whatever game is next. I especially like the logo on the side of the fence.

Mark the year, 2025. This is the year the Veteran's Park we know and love got refined and updated after all those years of abuse. The park will always be nostalgic for me, having gone to summer camp there summer after summer. However, it is nice to see that the town cares, and wants what's best for its citizens. We have sports fields that look good as new and we should hope to keep them this way moving forward.

Thank you Town of Hebron and Hebron Parks and Recreation for updating our beloved Veteran's Park and let's continue to be good citizens and keep the park clean. Come out to the new and improved Veteran's Park.
